Treatments Aromatherapy

The art of Aromatherapy has been practised since ancient times - phials of useable Frankincense and Myrrh were found in the Pyramid tombs of the Pharoahs. Aromatherapy as we know it today was introduced to Britain by Australian biochemist, Marguerite Maury and is now widely recognised orm of treatment.

Essential oils are extracted from a variety of plant leaves, resins, barks and flowering tops to produce small bottles of fragrant and therapeutic distilled oil.

altAromatherapy oils contain natural chemical compounds which can be effective in many of the same ways as their artificialy created counterparts. They are mainly absorbed into the body through the skin and the olfactory (sense of smell) system) and are carried to where they are needed via the circulatory and nervous systems.

Essential oils are individually selected to meet the needs of the client and blended with carrier oil for massage. The massage given is the same as the Holistic Massage i.e.responding to the therapeutic needs of the client on that day.

Essential oils can also be used in a variety of ways e.g. in the bath, steam inhalation etc. Some oils have very strong or even toxic properties - so an aromatherapy session will always include advice on home use.

Evidence based studies into the efficacy of Aromatherpay Massage have shown that treatments can both boost the immune system and reduce stress.

Aromatherapy is a gentle yet potentially powerful way to enhance and maintain the benefits of massage and whilst few of us can afford to indulge Hippocrates advice, regular aromatherpay massage can be helpful and supportive emtionally and physically.
